The webmaster interview This time in the webmaster interview Kane Rocks What is your name and age? My name is Gina Hurley and I am 40 years old . Where are you from? I am from Cardiff which is a city located in Wales, UK. When was the first time you heard about Kane and since when did you become a fan? I first heard Kane a year ago when they were a support act for Maroon 5, and from that performance of just 6 songs they hooked me in and I was addicted! Since when do you have your own Kane fansite? My site has been online since April 7th 2004 How did you come up with the name Kane rocks? The name comes from a saying that we have after we have seen a band we like, we usually say "they rock!" and as we all know Kane most certainly do rock! How many visitors a day does your site have? The last few months it has dropped a bit and can vary but on average since Christmas I guess around 100. How much time do you spend on you site every day? That varies as well. It depends if there is news to be added or photos to be uploaded, at the moment I would say anything from around 3 hours to 5 hours a week.. but when Kane get going again that will increase and be a lot more I am sure! How did you build your site? With help or alone? I work in IT, but my job is to fix computers and I didn't have a clue how to start building a site. I had just seen Kane live for the 3rd time, I was so impressed and I wanted to help spread the word in the UK about this amazing Dutch band, and I had a brainstorm to build a website devoted to them so I asked a friend for help. Between us we spent hours and hours and within 3 days of my idea, we got the site online and working. I also had many photos passed to me to put on my website being as I had very little from the UK shows which helped tremendously. Since it went online I have learned a lot more and I have redesigned a lot of the background setup and changed the way the site looks on my own. I think now that I have my site I will always want to change things but I will see what happens hey! One step at the time as they say. Can you explain what makes your site different than any other site? I guess the fact that it was the first UK Kane fansite! And I have had a few guestbook entries from one of the band members! What is the most special reaction you have ever had about your site and from who? "GINA GINA GINA give it up for Gina!" I think those words that Dennis wrote on Kane.nl will always mean something to me. I had spent many long nights in front of the pc to keep adding all the Kane info I could and when I read what Dennis had written on their website the smile on my face was from ear to ear and I knew all the hard work had paid off as never in a million years did I expect that kind of welcoming response. Do you have a special memory about Kane for example a special gig or meeting? I have loads of special memories. Seeing them for the first time, meeting Dinand a few weeks later and him reasuring us that they would be back (he kept his promise.) Being inspired by them to make a fansite. The Hotel Arena showcase and getting to meet all of Kane for the first time. Being able to witness the Java Eiland concert last year. But I guess most of all had to be the London showcase they did, Dinand inviting those in the queue inside for the soundcheck, being front row for an awesome performance and being invited to the aftershow party and getting to meet and chat with all of the guys. Whats your favourite Kane album and single? Ouch, this is a tuff one! I can't say I have a favourite album I like them all for different reasons. But I guess if I had to chose it would be 'So Glad You Made It'. As for single well depending on whether it is studio recorded or live then it would be 'Where do I go Now' for studio recorded and I just love 'Damn Those Eyes' live. When was your first Kane gig? This was a year ago when they supported Maroon 5 in UK. I got to see them 3 times as the support act. But as for a proper Kane headline concert it was Hotel Arena, Amsterdam. How many times have you seen Kane? In total I have seen them 6 times in concerts and also got to see them perform at UK's TOTP. What was your favourite gig? That has to be Java Eiland. It is so hard to find words to describe that concert. I was so glad I got to witness a concert that was full of so much energy, emotion and passion and with an excellent performance. The whole of the band were on fire! They were out to give it their best and not only did they achieve that, they went one step more. The stage setting, the pyro's, the fire podiums and the lighting were just out of this world. Have you ever met Kane and how did it go? I have been very fortunate to have met them a few times. I got to meet Dinand the 3rd time I saw them supporting Maroon 5 and it went great. He was happy to answer our questions and I think he was surprised that we already asking them to come back and do their own shows. My first time meeting all the band was at Hotel Arena. I got to talk to all of them for awhile and they seemed really pleased that I had made the UK fansite for them. I think my best time meeting them though was at the London showcase after party where I got to talk to them for quite sometime. They are really nice people to talk to, they take the time to listen to your views and they respect their fans with a passion. Do you have something that you would like to add to this interview? Since I started this site, I have made some really nice friends and this is all thanks to the website and Kane. I am glad that Kane have decided to share their music with the rest of us and I look forward to see and hear what they got to offer us all in 2005. And thanks goes out to Linda for this oportunity to talk about my website and Kane to others with the same interests.
